The warmth within me

Open hands raised toward sunlight in a garden

The warmth, the kind, gentle feeling—

Is it mine?

This loving, caring nature—

Is it mine?

What is mine?

What is “I”?

Is there such a thing I can claim as “me”?

Or was it the gentle caress of a loving mother,
a gentle energy within my mind?

Is God blessing me today,
letting me know that He is blessing me?

No complaints today.

Just true, pure gratitude for this experience.

Was this energy of light, warmth, and compassion
always within me?

Is it what they call Shakti?

Loving in nature,
nurturing in habit.

There are many names created by the mind,
many names given to God.

But Allah is my beloved,
and Allah is pure love.

The girl who grew up
to become a kind, compassionate woman
without ever realizing it—

now she wonders:

Was this warmth always me?
Or was it always within me?

A gift given to me today—

I see you.
I recognize you.
I feel you
from the bottom of my heart.

My past self,
the self of light,
warmth,
and love—

thank you
for visiting me again today.
